Taking up the position of Wrap’s ‘Illustrator of the week’ this week is the uber talented Dutchman Rick Berkelmans, who recently sent us this awesome print (above) – thanks Rick!
Above: ‘Good Times Bad Times’ – an ongoing series of drawings he’s made while his girlfriend watches bad soaps on TV
Rick lives with his girlfriend in Breda, a city in the south of the Netherlands, and that’s where he runs his one-man studio Hedof – through which he works on a mixture of both personal and commercial projects…he’s worked for clients including Red Bull, Mini, Anorak magazine, Lipton Tea, and Casio G Shock.
What we love is Rick’s humorous approach to illustration, his use of strong images, typography and bright colours that all make his work really stand out – in the right way. He’s really into print techniques, particularly screen-printing (see above), which he believes helps him to gain the right balance between an illustration looking professional yet tactile, and clever but casual.
