Folk-inspired drawings by Melody Seal

Taking most of her inspiration from her own imagination – developing characters and narratives in her head, Melody Seal’s drawing is always very spontaneous, and often a bit of an adventure! Mainly working in pen and ink, although sometimes with paint and print techniques, she finds that ‘mistakes’ can often lead to other ideas that she wouldn’t have thought of, and wouldn’t have reached if she’d worked in pencil.

Having grown up in the dark depths of Africa, you can also see how folk-stories, traditional crafts, masks, nature and animals prove as great sources of inspiration to Melody’s work too – we love how each character has been drawn and decorated to give them an almost god-like or idol status.
